Don has accomplished a lot in his tenure in Scouting, along with other organization he has been involved in. His biggest accomplishment besides his Eagle Scout is the William T. Hornaday Silver award. This has been described as the Olympic Medal of the environment. To qualify for this award he completed over 1513 service hours over 5-community service project that he raised over $11,135.75 to complete. This is an award that many people never try let alone succeed, as of today Don is the only one to be awarded this, this year. On top of these service projects he also completed another project for his Quartermaster award where he Raised the money and provided the Local Park with Bear Proof Trash cans, after the issue was brought up by a Forestry Range management official. He has not stopped there he has continued to work on two more projects to qualify for the William T. Hornaday Bronze award which has only been done by a few people in the history of the Boy Scouts.
Don has also received Sea Scouting’s highest honor, the Quartermaster Award. Sea Scouting is a part of the Boy Scouts of America, in which boating and specialized nautical skills are learned and practiced with leadership emphasis. The Quartermaster Award is like the Eagle Scout Award in the Boy Scouts. Over 1 million Eagle Scouts have been recognized in the 100 years of the B.S.A., while only a thousand Quartermaster Awards have been earned.
